Award-Winning Architecture: "Four Winds" Reconstruction
Four Winds, CT
There is a specific energy that comes with photographing a home that has stood for nearly a century. "Four Winds," a secluded hilltop estate near the Long Island Sound, recently received the 2025 Excellence Award from AIA Connecticut, for this award-winning collaboration with Rolfs Elert Office.
The home’s history begins in 1931, designed by Calvin Kiesling and built by the legendary Frazier Foreman Peters. Known for his stone houses, Peters’ influence is still the heartbeat of the property. However, the work done by Rolfs Elert Office and Tallman Building Company to expand and modernize the residence is where the story gets interesting.
The design team managed to create a unified aesthetic that respects the original stone and wood while introducing surprising, modern moments. As a photographer, my goal was to highlight that dialogue between the old and the new.
Capturing "Four Winds" was a reminder that great architecture isn't just about building something new—it’s about honoring what came before while daring to write a new chapter. Congratulations to Rolfs Elert Office on their AIA Connecticut Excellence Award.
