Inside Ty Pennington's New York City Home — A California Closets Shoot
Some photoshoots just have great energy — and my session with Ty Pennington at his New York City apartment was one of them. From the moment I walked in, it felt less like a job and more like catching up with someone I'd known for years.
As it turned out, we almost had. Ty and I were both living in Munich around the same time, regulars at the same local hotspots, without ever crossing paths. We laughed about that a lot.
Ty's apartment had that warm, eclectic feel you'd expect from someone who has spent a career transforming homes — layered, personal, nothing overly curated. The California Closets installation fit right into that world, which made my job easier and more fun.
We talked the entire shoot. About Munich, about design, about the industry. Ty was relaxed, curious, and genuinely collaborative — he wasn't just showing up for the camera, he was present for the whole thing. That's rare, and it shows in the images. This was one of the most relaxed shoots I've had in a long time, and honestly one of the most enjoyable. It really felt like we were creating something together rather than me just pointing a camera at him.
This is the kind of work I love most: a commercial brief with room to breathe, a subject who's fully in it, and a space with real character. If you're planning a 2026 project — brand campaign, celebrity partnership, high-end residential — and you want it to feel this natural, shoot me an email.
